Hottest 2017 Major League Baseball Memorabilia

How can the 2017 MLB season top the unforgettable season we watched in 2016.  The Chicago Cubs erased a 108-year title drought in the most dramatic fashion. Chicago Cubs memorabilia reached heights it had never seen before. The entire starting line-up: Kris Bryant, Anthony Rizzo, Javier Baez, Kyle Schwarber signed memorabilia was the hottest it had ever been.  The memorabilia industry as a whole had a big season as well. Autographed jerseys, baseball and photos were consistently selling.  Legends, prospects and All Stars all were being sold, traded and added to “Wish Lists”.  What can we expect in 2017?

Get your sharpie ready, there are a few trends to note for MLB memorabilia collecting in 2017.

1. Autographed Baseballs are still king.  Okay, I know I said trends but this is one collectible that will never lose luster. A pristine white, Rawlings Official Major League Baseball is still the #1 seller in baseball collectibles.  But who do you get to sign it? How about top prospects? Their value can skyrocket within months. Just look at Gary Sanchez last year, his baseball went from $50 to $150 in August alone. We believe the best targets this year are: Andrew Benintendi, Yoan Moncada, Dansby Swanson, Gleyber Torres and wait for it… Yes, Tim Tebow.

2. Pick a team. Double-down on a team and watch their value soar as they complete a October run. Fans who committed to the 2015 Royals reaped benefits, Cubs collectors who started early in 2016 saw their collection gain value. Who is the team for 2017? Thinking in terms of stars, prospects, and total potential, our pick to team to collect would be the Washington Nationals. The Nats boast one of the best young players in the league in Bryce Harper plus have a roster full of cheaper autograph options. The Nationals have had a few early exits in the postseason but are healthy and poised for a deep run.

3. Hall of Famers are still Hall of Famers. You do not have to get caught up in all the prospecting hoopla. Our industry has been buoyed by the young stars selling well, but the Hall of Famer players paved the way. There is still a HUGE market for Mickey Mantle, Pete Rose, Ted Williams and essentially all Cooperstown dwellers. There is always value in a classic autograph from Sandy Koufax, Yogi Berra, Willie Mays and more.
